For a bra to fit the way that it should you need to measure your bustline or have someone else do it for you. Some department stores host fitting clinics from time to time to help you find the correct bra that fits you best.

While measuring your own bra size, start by putting on the most comfortable bra you have. However, do not wear a bra that is overly breast enhancing or too big, instead wear one that offers a clear depiction of your normal bustline. Secondly you will also need a tape measure.

Measuring Band Size

Measure around the upper part of your chest above the breasts, and below the armpits. This number must to be even. For example, if you measured 35 inches then you will need to round up by one inch, making 36 inches your band size. Write the number that you measure down on a piece of paper, and proceed

Measuring Cup Size

Measure around the fullest part of your breasts while continuing to wear your bra. Now, you will need to subtract the previous (band) number from this measurement. For example, a bust measurement of 39 inches minus the 36 inch band size equals 3 inches. As noted by the following scale this would indicate a cup size C. Final Size: 36C

Less than 1 inch = AA
One inch = A
Two inches = B
Three inches = C
Four inches = D
Five inches = DD
Six inches = DDD/E
Seven inches = F

Please also note: Do not pull tightly on the tape while measuring. It should not be too loose either. Simply place the tape snugly against your body.

Remember, if you are without a tape measure you can simply use a piece of string and then measure it.

Make sure to keep the tape or string level with the ground.
